Surprise Proposals are one of my favorite things to photograph. I feel so sneaky and elusive which makes it so fun. There is a thrill to hiding out and not being spotted by your targets for photos.

Luke reached out to me and wanted to propose to his girlfriend. He was not sure on the location and all the things involved, so I helped walk him through some ideas and the process. Ultimately, we decided the The Sleeping Bear Dunes would be a good spot as it was somewhat private but also very scenic and memorable.

Before the shoot, I went out taking some photos acting like I was a landscape photographer. Luke shared his location with me from his iPhone so I could track them. Knowing what they roughly were wearing and the time and place they'd be, I hung around close, but not too close that it would be suspicious.

Luke gave his speech to his now fiancé and then got down on one knee. I was already taking a bunch of pictures at this point. When the couple got into the scene that's really when the adrenalin starts to kick in. I myself even get somewhat nervous with excitement.

After the proposal I congratulated them and took a few engagement pics for them there. They loved it because they got to share some high quality resolution pictures within a day of the proposal.
